Dela & Co @ Kwani Litfest 2010
Nowadays, environmental protection is serious business in Kenya. That serious, that the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEMA) shows up at one of Kenya's most prestigious Literary Festivals, and despite having all necessary licenses, shuts down the sound system right at the show. Official reason for the shut down was noise pollution, or was it maybe just the proximity of the hotel next door, known to be frequented by Kenyan politicians and their mistresses who felt a bit disturbed by some 'noisy' artists next door?
In a country like Kenya, one might never be really sure why the things happen that tend to happen.
Despite all, Dela, and her (almost) all female band for that night, sang and played their souls out and made the stars sprinkle more. Obviously none of them had planned for an all-acoustic concert. As even the drumset was restricted to be used, the music consisted for 90% of voices, spiced up with a bit of percussion and guitar.
A real musician can create magic anywhere, anyhow. And magic it was.
Beautiful magic.
